it is possible
to stare out the window for six hours.
the only thing registering
is the sun moving from east to west.
a sky turning pink, then dark
the lights on the bridge, cars going somewhere.
every now and again....
every now and again this doesnt seem to hurt so much.

just get through it
lingering....
the way in which one says something...parsed...contextless...can deliver a blow. i replay the expression on the face again and again. how ought i have said it--what would have been enough to not invite the feeling of assault, rejection, confusion?
an outsider looking in says, "you don't see yourself as others do."
echoes of the past, the present, predictable future. no...I guess I dont and most probably wont.
and another speaking of a nakedness of sorts. too intense. "you expect too much of others--you expect that they know themselves". not sure i expect anything other than they be what they are.
somewhere inbetween there is a common language, understanding, etc. somewhere.
"just get through it"
yep

variance
the eyes beg a great many questions.
one just needs to look.
at times, perhaps, search.
there are moments you want to sit back.
replay immediately.
ask the question you didn't.
in that pause
what surfaces is the difference
one pushes to lightness and laughter
the other to depth.

resets and do-overs
i thought and mumbled outoud, "no reset button..."
you said, "not for you. the rest of us keep hitting it."
silence
"i must to an extent, some variation, some place leading elsewhere but coming round about to close the loop."
"ya think?"
"unknown. but do think."
"no do-overs z. that's what you keep preaching."
"no...no do-overs."
"you want some tea?"
light laughter, "thank you."
there was a phone line between us...but the tea was lovely.

build a playground
"What are you doing this weekend?"
"I'm building a playground."
...we paused...startled for a second and then smiled a bright eyed smile.
standard question with a perfect life giving answer. i think...i'm sure...this is the best response i have heard to the weekend question in a long long time. "i'm building a playground".
every time she passes by that playground in the future...at its foundation will be a piece of her life...a single day...continuously resulting with incredible joy and laughter to knows how many children.
"i'm building a playground."
add to the bucket list:
build a playground

54
"This is the 54th time you've flaked."
"I'm going for triple digits."
"What's that word you use?"
"Ridiculous"
"Glad you said it."
