Parents weekend

Heading to Arizona after the game this evening. Lot's of wondering, thinking, imagining. Has Jefferson grown--changed--seen something new about the world and himself. Does more seem possible...do the opportunities seem endless.

I can't remember exactly my first couple of months at college. I remember bits and pieces--but not the feelings. Lots of letter writing. Lots of wandering through the library stacks...reading heaps. I hung out with my roommate a lot although he was 33 and I was 18. He played the banjo and grew-up in WV although his mother worked in Manhattan for Christian Dior. Ron Duke, eternal student with a big heart and at the core carried with him a broken spirit from childhood.

I wonder how Jefferson will fair. He is in the dorms...very different from living on your own. He is surrounded by the same age group of people...very different than living with an adult who is independent. He is Jefferson...giggle...and so...he is perhaps in the best place for him right now.

Looking forward to seeing his smiling face, his laugh, his assessment of what school is like.

Long drive...time to think...Khion, Freddy -- Phoenix then Tucson...on the way back the Grand Canyon.
