Recognition

It is strange how we recognise one another. It does not require a handshake or a smile or explicit mutual understanding of any one thing. The quality of a voice and it's manner of speaking. Or the look in the eyes--a piercing intensity that conveys, "I see you." In whatever form ...it is recognition. And it is startling.

Some of us embrace recognition. Others recoil. I admit. I recoil. Remove myself. Wonder if it is just my imagination or some deep hope surfacing that the world is not so quiet as it seems and contains a perfect silence just the same.

Regardless, it stays. The sense of bumping into some thing. Colliding unexpectedly. A collision of sorts that leaves one a bit more pensive, still, catching one's breath.

Silent.
Alive.
Burning.
Recognition.
